Out of nothing, we created nothing; a nothing that is complex enough to establish the Balance between all the elements.
We created nothing for a reason.
It is an escape. It is peace. It is emptiness. Through this emptiness you will be filled by the experience of the space itself. Through it you will sense life’s essential openness; you will discover its ever-changing and uncontrollable nature. Through it you will sense the life-giving emptiness. The surfaces and folded layouts strengthen people’s experience in this infinite landscape, and create the condition to enjoy the great panoramic view by joining the horizon and the infinite universe.

This venue reflects the five elements of life: Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Void, through the design and implementation of each unit in its surrounding.
Earth represents the hard, solid objects of the earth and it is symbolized by stone. Fire represents the energetic, forceful, moving things in the world and it is symbolized by steel. Water represents the fluid, flowing, formless things in the world. Wind represents things that grow, expand, and enjoy freedom of movement and it can be best represented by the human mind. Void represents those things beyond our everyday experience and is clearly symbolized by the openness of the space.
It is a walk, a journey. It starts in a point but yet it is endless.

7 Cabins
I was briefed about "perspectives- Art inflammation and me"…
Meeting a patient then interpreting his experience with the disease on my own, in my firm did not feel right. I was uncomfortable dealing with a patient, once again, as a guinea pig: observing him, studying his case, drafting his reactions, and building theories and interpretations in order to produce a piece of art representing his case.
Yet, I thought the word "perspective" was interesting. So I decided to redirect the view angle and set another perspective: remove the patient from the vanishing point, put him in my place, and attempt, along with him, to draw a new perspective, a new horizon line in order to discover the converging line in his life. Then try to establish and inject his own interpretation for a new perception of his personal experience and how he wants others to perceive him through this piece of art.
I started by selecting different patients, and brought them together to participate in a workshop made of twelve sessions where they would work on their own projects under my guidance and provocation through a conceptual approach.
During the first five sessions, the discussions proved the need for another healing factor. To share, discuss and rethink the participants’ experiences and concerns was the major issue. The needed support was provided by the team and myself, and the journey began. We succeeded in dreaming together and recall important events and moments in their lives, the best and the worst, stories that built their personalities, events that shaped their unconscious, thus revealing their desires despite the society that pigeonholed them, trapped them in boxes, prisons of judgment and together and recall important events and moments in their lives, the best and the worst, stories that built their personalities, events that shaped their unconscious, thus revealing their desires despite the society that pigeonholed them, trapped them in boxes, prisons of judgment and control, made them prisoners inside virtual boxes of diseases that are but a physical obstacle they can overcome with the appropriate treatment.
When guiding a design workshop, I usually ask the participants to think outside the box. But in this case, I went the other way around: I flipped the process inside out and asked them to think inside the box. I gave them a 1x1x2m box/cabin and asked them to tell their story inside it. Each participant’s story was defined by a sentence he said with a latent content reflecting his unconscious during one of the sessions, and by one word he chose to describe his journey with the disease. The exercise’s aim was to concretize the sentence and the word inside the cabin and to make it as interactive and provoking as he could, so the visitors/viewers would live a small experience, a shot of his personal experience and state of mind.
The exercise was successfully completed, the results were surprising, and we found ourselves in front of 7 cabins, projecting 7 different persons, with 7 different statements. 7 cabins shouting out loud death and life, hope and despair… a testimony inside the cabin.

Roumieh Prison
Design Therapy workshop in Roumieh Prison
La fondation Père Afif Osseiran et l’agence de design ID Beirut ont collaboré en Mai 2009 pour débuter un atelier de design avec 10 mineurs en conflit avec la loi dans le cadre de la prison centrale de Roumieh, sur un rythme de 2 fois par semaine pour une durée de 2 heures. Cet atelier a pour but de concrétiser une image abstraite, un concept, un objet qui porte une histoire personnelle de la vie quotidienne de chaque mineur.Les premières séances furent une perception globale de l’espace dans la prison, chacun devait dessiner cet espace.
A un niveau plus large, une étude sur la carte du Liban fut établie, essay-ant de localiser en premier lieu leur région, leur rue et leur maison. A partir de cet espace ils devaient trouver une phrase clé, décrivant leurs propres lits, histoire dont le signifiant manifeste profondément la psychologie du signifié et donc du sujet même.
Revues, fils métalliques, habits personnels, tubes en plexi, furent utilisés pour fabriquer leurs propres objets.
Des interventions de professionnels représentaient une vue extérieure à leur processus et une valorisation de leur production.
Les mineurs avaient cassé les barreaux de la prison durant l’atelier pour se mettre à la place des étudiants en design ayant des références à l’appui pour développer leur conception.
La concrétisation de la démarche et la finalité du projet se déroula en 2 phases devant un jury : la première phase la présentation de l’objet plastique et la deuxième par la mise en scène qui leur permit d’exprimer à travers leur corps et d’intégrer cet objet en eux-mêmes. La projection de leur histoire puis l’introjection de l’objet est un processus thérapeutique qui permet une extériorisation de tous les ressentis affectifs et même cognitifs.
6 mineurs sont arrivés à cette phase finale de l’exécution et 4 autres ont été libérés. Les attestations remises étaient personnalisées. Chacune portait la photo du lit du mineur ainsi que sa phrase clé.

I am never absolutely certain that such particular organization of matter before me is actually a chair, yet I infer that it is from my memory of previous chair references.
